Q&A

Question: "What foundation do you like to use?" -from Jessy, Arlington, VA

Answer: I am often asked about the makeup brands I use. I will first say that I don't sell any products or represent a brand, so I speak only based on my experience as a makeup artist. Creating the illusion of a flawless complexion is the key to any makeup application. One product I like for this purpose is Bobbi Brown stick foundation. I keep almost every shade on hand so that I can match any skin tone. If blended well, different sticks can be mixed to match even more skin tones. Bobbi Brown foundation stick is great because it has multiple functions. It works well as a concealer as well as a foundation. With one product I can hide flaws, conceal the under-eye area, and create a flawless complexion using the stick as foundation all over.

Question: "Is the makeup you use for television production different from the makeup you use for a wedding?" -AG, Bethesda, MD

Answer: I work in various different media - video, film, television, photography, wedding makeup - and the products I use work well in all of these situations. A good example of such a product is MAC Studio Fix pressed powder. I like it because it gives a matte finish. It is also a flexible product - I keep a variety of the colors in my makeup kit. Some of the shades have red in them and work great on certain skin tones as blush or bronzer. MAC Studio Fix is the best for covering shine for as long as possible, which is important for a bride. MAC Studio Fix is also great because it is a 2 in 1 product which can be applied without concealer if I need to apply makeup on someone quickly such as in some television production shoots.
